The stereo I’m removing is a Blaupunkt 520 that came standard with the 2005 Astra Classic Hatchback.
Step 1 – undo the screws
The first step is to get a small allen key and remove the 4 screws at the corners of the head unit.
Step 2: Makeshift stereo removal keys
Once that is done, you need to get a coat hanger and make a pair of removal ‘keys’. They only have one function – to undo the clips that hold the stereo to the chassy.
They will need to be long enough to be inserted about 1 inch into the head unit.
Keep pushing until you feel a click. That means the clips have been undone, and you are ready to start sliding the unit out.
Step 3: Remove the unit
You can decide for yourself how gentle you would like to be when sliding out your head unit. I used a hammer.
Hi. I have a same audio system in my car. I need some pictures of back side of the system because I want to connect Auxiliary plug at the back side.
Thank you in advance.
Sure I’ll upload a photo sometime tonight.
Hey Sharad,
I’ve added it to the bottom of the original post, and I’ve reproduced it here:

Hi Tom,
Do you know anything about installing a new car head unit in to a holden astra?? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom
I posted on this myself recently, and it was great to see your view on it Tom.
Hi. thanks for uploading photo. Do you have any idea about adding auxiliary input to this system? I found 10 pin adapter on ebay. Will it support that?
here is the link for cable.

i have the exact same stereo and have removed the screws and tried the makeshift removal keys but can not remove the stereo. help!
I assume by now you’ve already got it out but I wanted you to know: make sure you push the makeshift key tool inwards, towards the CD player as you push in. It’s good to get someone else help you pull the CD as you push the keys in.
Thanks you very much for posting this guide. Got mine out easy!
You are a legend!
Help,
I removed mine easy enough but won,t switch on now i put it back, dosent ask for the code or anything,
Anyone got any ideas.Thanks,
stev0
Hi , in the above stratement you explained to use a hammer, i used it , i used it but i think i used it the wrong way . i split the front of the head unit and it will not turn on obviously, I am holding you completley liable for this and you will be hearing from me and my attorny personally in the next few days.
kind regards
howard lawyers.
Lol do you even have a case there? i.don’t think you can sue for your own silly mistakes.
Don’t care how old this is and only just came across it.
No actually, he said quote-unquote “You can decide for yourself how gentle you would like to be when sliding out your head unit. I used a hammer”.
So please, do us all a favor and use that brain to ” look” and “read” properly. Trying to sue someone over your own stupidity is just down right hilarious.
You are mad
Yes, it works. Thanks
Hi..I have holden vectra 2000 model, with blaupunkt 520, however I m not sure where it has 10pin or 8pin adapter at rear. I just want pay my ipod from it. Any help much appreciated. Thanks..
Buy a new headunit. For less than a hundred bucks you can get an aux input at the
Front of the aftermarket head unit which plays through a standard 3.5mm balanced audio cable or alternatively buy a head unit with a usb input that is ipod compatible and
Use that. Your only other option is to open the circuit board and solder one in
Yourself or buy one of those crappy fm transmitter ipod thingos run off the 12v
Cigarette lighter

hi… i own a holden asrta 2003 model. i was finding it quite difficult trying to figure out how to remove my blaupunkt 520 HU until i stumbled across ur site so many thx .. the only other issue is getting adaptors to match the original stock adaptor as the new HU is a CLARION. it would save me so much time in cutting stripping and crimping in that crampy little space! but like how u had bought yours from Autopro and its availability @ repco my delimna is that i live in Fiji and accessibility to these items locally is unfortunately none. my question is if if u would know wether they would have an adaptor for original stock (male adaptor) to attach to the Clarion HU (female adaptor)
your assistance will be greatly appreciated
George
Two of these adaptors are pictured. They are made by Aerpro. In Australia, you can get these from AutoPro (like I did). Repco also sell them.
O.K if your stuck and don’t have time to eBay the remover…Go and buy 6 small screwdrivers. 4 Phillips head 2 Flat blade (thin enough to fit the Allan holes).
1/ TAKE YOUR TIME
2/ insert 4 Phillips screw drivers into the Allan key holes
3/ TAKE YOUR TIME
4/ Pry around the edge of the radio with the flat blade screw drivers.
Ye Ha.

When putting in the new headunit has anyone taken out the cage/ bracket thing ? and if so how? Also the space where the headunit previously was isnt deep enough for my new headunit.. if i take out the cage will it be much deeper?
Hi claire did you manage to work out the answer to this? I have got my old head unit out no problems but am struggling to fit the new one in. It’s a JVC. not sure if I should take the cage out or not and even how to go about it.. seems pretty tightly stuck in
Hi All,
Quick Question : I have 2001 Astra CD which came standard with a Blautpunkt 520 stereo.
I recently inserted a CD and it spatt it out with the Display showing” ERROR”
The Cd which i inserted was showing its age, but then i inserted a new CD. Same thing.
I am assuming the CD has had it. Can anyone directed me in purchasing a new system as i am having trouble tracking them down.
Thanks in advance.
Tom
Thanks, would have ripped the whole dash out if I didnt find this post- Thanks again. Had the radio out with a little bit of fiddling. After the radio was out I could see how the clips work. Suggest to others after they insert the make shift coat hangers you should push them outwards while you lever with 2 screw drivers from either side of the radio. This will ensure the holding clips disengage..
Hey I recently bought a holden 2002 zafira it had a blaupunkt 520 in it but the old owner took it out can you put another head unit in the car even if it doesn’t have the same plug can u ‘re wire it in?
Does changing the stereo make you lose anything on the display bit at the top where the time/date is or do I have to get a stereo which is compatible or something??
I was worried about this too. After installing a new system, the display works fine. It shows the time, date and temperature.
many thanks for sharing how to remove radio from TS astra..it got me buggered for a while…those pics help heaps
hi,
after removing the standard radio/CD player in the Astra, is it possible to put a new head unit, connect it up and it will work fine?
Hey Guys,
I have recently purchased sub/amp/6×9 and a new head unit but the problem im facing is that the head unit wont slide all the way in due to the stock standard adaptor with the vehichle (holden astra), any solutions to this?.
also i want to run R.C cables from my head unit, and i able to remove the plastic base inside the cars head unit housing?
After a lot of finding around we’ve finally managed to get the CD player out.
Anyone who is doing it should not the problem we had was putting the coat hanger in too far and going past the clips (which have to be pushed in to release)
Hi just wondering if anyone knows of a straight swap system that still enables steering wheel controls?? I don’t want to lose them :(. Thanks!!
Hi Dave did you find a straight swap if so where and what?
Andy
Hi I just won’t to no if you can put a new CD player in a 2005 astra… And if you can with out taking it into get a pro to do it….. Thanks
Hi..thanks for this post..i was easily able to remove my blaupunkt system. Only the thing i want to ask is i want to replace this one with new Sony system. Do you have any other post where you explain how to install new system after remove this blaupunkt head car unit. As i am not technical person and i don’t want to pay too much money to car mechanic.
You don’t need a hammer or any force to remove radio. Just push the keys outwards with your thumbs, this pushes the keys in, and you slide the unit out.
Hi thanks for this post wish I had seen it before we took our stereo out we didn’t do the whole push the pins so we have broken the top of the dash (oh well) but my questions is since taking the stereo out the car doesn’t start you don’t need the stereo in for the car to run do you? I am thinking we have done something but partner thinks it’s the stereo
